Fruit platters are always a welcome guest at the dinner table. Especially this one. Chocolate covered strawberries take it up a notch, and the turkey is made from chopped apple! Not only does this come together quickly, but it’s kid friendly and there’s not much clean up.
If you’re needing to take something homemade to Friendsgiving or your Thanksgiving table that is much FASTER than making an actual dessert, this is it. Here’s how to do it:
First, you’ll need to rinse the strawberries. Let them dry on a paper towel.
Next, we’ll need to make the turkey out of the apple. This is easier than it looks. Slice off two sections of the apple- one for the head and one for the body. If it’s crooked don’t worry. You can always use your knife to cut the head and body to your liking after.
When the strawberries have dried completely, melt the chocolate. I use a microwave to do this. Using the defrost setting, keep checking every 10-15 seconds and stir. Stirring is important because the chocolate discs may appear to be whole still, but when you start stirring you’ll notice they’ll start to melt down.
Toothpicks are optional, but I find that it makes the process less messy- especially if you’re kids are helping! Take each strawberry and dip them in the chocolate, turning it on all sides until its covered in chocolate. Next, cover the two pieces of apple in chocolate on all sides. Let the chocolate covered strawberries and apple pieces dry on a wire rack OR directly on parchment paper. If you let them dry directly on parchment, the chocolate may pool a bit underneath.
Then, melt the white chocolate using the same microwave method. Using the back of a spoon, drizzle the strawberries with the white chocolate. Alternatively, place the warm chocolate in a plastic bag. Cut a TINY hole at the end, and use it like a frosting piping bag to decorate the strawberries.
After your fruit has dried, assemble your fruit platter!
Place the smaller apple circle on top of the larger one to make the “turkey.” For the eyes, candy eyes are the easiest. You could also use raisins, chocolate chips, or mini m and m’s. I used frosting and piped the eyes on with tip #5, but this is optional. For the nose, cut a small piece of strawberry out in the shape of a triangle and place it below the eyes.
Take your blueberries and place them around the turkey.
Then, assemble the strawberries. I alternated between chocolate covered and plain strawberries.
Finally, place the pineapple chunks in a layer at the very top.
And you’re done! Your guests will gobble it up (of course that pun was intended).

Description
This adorable Thanksgiving fruit platter makes a healthy dessert, and the chocolate covered strawberries make it extra special. Perfect for a quick treat that adds color to your holiday spread.
Ingredients
- 10 oz dark melting chocolate
- 3 oz white melting chocolate
- 1 apple
- 1 pint blueberries
- 1 pint strawberries
- 1 1/2 cup chopped pineapple
- candy eyes
Instructions
1. Rinse the strawberries and let them dry on a paper towel.
2. Make the turkey. Rinse the apple and then cut two pieces; one for the head and one for the body. It’s best to cut from opposite ends of the apple. If the pieces are too big or not as circular as you would like, you can cut them to your liking on a cutting board.
3. When the fruit has dried, melt the chocolate in the microwave on the defrost setting. Check every 10-15 seconds and stir. Do not scorch.
4. Use toothpicks or your hands to dip each strawberry in the chocolate. Cover all sides. Place them on parchment paper to dry. Drizzle the white chocolate onto each strawberry using the back of a spoon.
5. Dip the two apple pieces into the chocolate, covering them completely. Let them dry on parchment paper.
6. On a platter, arrange the two pieces of apple at the bottom of the platter as the “turkey.” Place candy eyes on the head for the eyes, and cut a tiny piece of strawberry in the shape of a triangle out for the nose.
7. Arrange the blueberries, strawberries and pineapple around the turkey.
8. Gobble it up! 🙂
Notes
- If you don’t want to dip anything into chocolate, you could also use a pear for the turkey. Cut the pear in half lengthwise and place it skin side up on the platter.
- Dip only half the strawberries into the chocolate if you want to alternate between dipped and un-dipped on your platter.
- Have extra dipping chocolate? Dip banana pieces, pretzels, or anything else you have for a snack later!
